Morpho Aurora Socks
The Morpho Aurora Socks are inspired by Morpho aurora, an iridescent blue butterfly found in the mountains of central South America. The intricate braided cable details on the front of the sock are inspired by the back-and-forth zigzagging flight of butterflies. This may be inefficient, but it certainly shows off their beautiful wings!
These toe-up socks feature a motif of 2x2 cables that braid and twist in an intricate pattern for a beautiful and unique finished product. They feature a classic gusset and heel flap construction, with cohesive ribbing on the toe, gussets, heel flap, back of leg, and cuff. Corresponding written instructions are provided for the charts.
This pattern is available in three foot circumferences and the socks are adjustable in length and height. It requires the knitter to be able to knit a small circumference in the round, and the pattern is method-neutral to suit your preferred technique for socks — double-pointed needles, magic loop/one circular needle, two circular needles, short circular needle, etc. Working two-at-a-time is possible.
This pattern looks best in a solid or semi-solid colourway. A busy colourway will obscure the cable pattern details, and the gusset-and-heel-flap construction will break up self-striping and gradient colourways.
This pattern has lots of helpful resources, including links to fully-captioned video tutorials and detailed stitch abbreviation descriptions.
