Wired Up Hat

The Wired Up Hat is inspired by electrical wiring. My child is constantly asking questions about electricity and how power gets from the switch to the light, or from the power plant to the house. This hat gives the illusion of strands of yarn woven in front and behind columns of stitches, just like wires running between studs in a wall.

This close-fitting hat uses a straightforward all-over stitch pattern based on ribbing with some strands lying on top of the fabric. These strands help highlight the subtle colour details we all love in handpainted yarns. It features a crown knit in pattern as well as a cuff that blends into the pattern smoothly.

This pattern requires the knitter to be able to knit in the round (both on double-pointed needles and circular needles) and clearly explains all techniques required. Within the pattern you will find links to useful video tutorials as well, so the pattern is easily accessible to an advanced beginner knitter. Corresponding written instructions are provided for the chart.

The texture used in this pattern works with nearly any colourway, since it both pulls out subtle dye details and breaks up pooling.
