Gadzooks! Socks

The Gadzooks! Socks are inspired by experimentation and surprises. I don’t 100% know why I did this to this yarn, but it turned out so much more beautifully than I expected that I couldn’t help but name the pattern in honour of a quirky, old-fashioned interjection. When the fabric of these socks starts to develop, you’ll feel like adding an exclamation of your own, too!

These socks use delicate cables of elongated stitches to create a truly unique surface texture on top of the fabric. I promise it is much more intuitive than it might look! Only two types of cable are required. They feature a Chinstrap three-wedge short row heel and a twisted-rib cuff. The toe and heel are worked in a complementary contrast colour.

This pattern provides both toe-up and cuff-down instructions and is available in three adult foot circumferences with adjustable foot lengths and leg heights. Optional mini-gusset instructions are included as well for a customizable fit. The instructions are method-neutral to suit your preferred sock-knitting technique (double-pointed needles, magic loop/one circular needle, two circular needles, short circular needle, etc.; the socks can be also be worked two-at-a-time), and all non-basic techniques are fully explained. Links to useful video tutorials are also provided. With a surprisingly intuitive, repetitive motif, the pattern is easily accessible to an intermediate sock knitter.

The texture on these socks stands out in many different colourways, but multicoloured yarns that are more subtle with no striping effect are most effective.

This pattern is part of the Interjection! Socks: Modern Sock Designs That Inspire Old-Fashioned Exclamations eBook. You can purchase all five patterns at a reduced bundle discount on Payhip or on Ravelry.
